Lana Del Ray aka Lizzie Grant is a very interesting character to read about. I’m still a little confused about whether what she portrays is really her or just an image but I am still a great fan of her music. Her music has a great melancholy and vintage feel to it yet still feels like I’m listening to current music, not my mother’s records. The management team behind Lana Del Ray decided to dub her as ” gangsta Nancy Sinatra”, and after doing my research I found that everyone quoted this as her image however she herself has been quoted as hating this association only respecting the work of Frank Sinatra. I do like Lana Del Ray’s music and I’m not going to turn this post into a tirade against her because apparently she’s the singer music bloggers love to hate, but I do want to bring up a few points.
While I love her image, its old school with a lot of edge…its seems like she’s been marketed to be that way. The management team and record executives decided to build an image of her around her music that would create a buzz and produce sales. Its worked, but my question is …what is Lana Del Ray genuinely about. We know what the executives and management around her want us to see and portray but I’m really more interested in the artist that’s creating this great music not the image people want us to see. I love the edgy photos but is that really who she is ? According to her, the gangsta Nancy Sinatra is not here and she doesn’t think there was any talent or gangsta ties with Nancy Sinatra. Ok,Nancy Sinatra’s dad was Frank Sinatra….I think that’s about as gangsta as you get for those days. The management team may be going about the wrong way with promoting Lana Del Ray, which is probably going to lead to problems for them in the future when she decides she gets to have sole creative control over her music and herself. All in all , love her song Young and Beautiful from the movie, The Great Gatsby, and I certainly hope what Lana Del Ray continues to put out there for us to see and hear will be more and more her and less of the executive big suits.
Now on to the food. A little snooping around helped me find out that Lana Del Ray loves Cinnamon and Vanilla, and then I stumbled across some pictures on the net of her eating french toast topped with whipped cream at a diner; so I decided to fuse the two together and came up with a delicious recipe inspired by http://www.preparedpantry.com …ENJOY !!
