Whitney Houston! What to say? What not to say? Ooooh I wanna dance with somebody. Say you wanna dance, don’t you wanna dance, say you wanna dance. Dance.
Apparently, Whitney Houston was not a great dancer(and you would never know), which is why they had so many cool dancers in all her 80s videos. Fancy that. Whitney Houston artistically was one of the amazing wonders of American Pop Culture History. However, her personal life was more entertaining than “Judge Judy,” “Cops,” and “Jerry Springer” combined.
I remember when I first saw Ms Houston accept an important BET Achievement Award, and she was blatantly on crack(or some other ecstatic drug). She was smiling real big and was over the top, while sporting big sunglasses. I was shocked. Then after that, she was always cracked out on TV. Also, one time, while traveling, her crack attack was so bad, they had to emergency land the plane in France, so Whitney wouldn’t die. A few years and a couple of rehab visits later, Ms Houston performed in Australia, where her voice/talent had been so damaged, the Aussies claimed she couldn’t entertain a dead rat. She couldn’t hit any more notes. But it was not from crack, because she makes too much money to smoke crack, per her Diane Sawyer interview. She was also overly aggressive and went to the bathroom multiple times during this TV Special. People recorded it and made drinking games out of watching this while I was in college. Her father had also been suing her at the time of his death.
Also, it was common knowledge that Whitney was in a relationship with a woman throughout the 80s and 90s. Her girlfriend looked like a man. It was also intimated to me by someone who knew them closely in the 80s, that Whitney married Bobby Brown to have a baby for her and her girlfriend, and that the girlfriend left when Whitney and Bobby became out of control crackheads.
Whitney’s mother, Cissy, insisted to Oprah, that her daughter was NOT a lesbian, and that she would NOT love her child if her child was gay. She was genuinely disgusted by the idea, and claimed that she had always thought Whitney’s close friend was bad, but Cissy realized later that the girlfriend was actually doing good for Whitney.
One tidbit of knowledge people do not know about Whitney Houston was that she was almost cast as Sondra on “The Cosby Show.” This was just before her music career broke out. Imagine if she had been Sondra. None of her wonderful 80s jams would have come out because she would have been contracted to like .2 episodes per season of “The Cosby Show.” This was also around the time Robert DeNiro was trying to date her. Of course, Cissy did not approve. Wihtney was only twenty-one.
But as years progressed, crack was wack, and she made too much money to smoke crack. When she was accused of such allegations, she insisted, to believe this jabberwocky, she “needed to see some receipts.” Yeah, because drug dealers really give those out.
Regardless Ms Houston, we will always love you, per her amazing song from “The Bodyguard.” Dolly Parton often jested(since she originated that song) that, “when I first sang it, I could open a bank account, but when Whitney sang it, I could buy the bank.”
Whitney Houston will always go down in History as a national treasure. What snacks would you consume while listening to Ms Houston? Since she relocated to Atlanta per her reality stint on “Being Bobby Brown,” I would lean more in the direction of Georgia peaches. Maybe a wonderful cobbler, or peach ice cream? Maybe go all out and eat some cheetos while rocking out to her jams or thoroughly enjoying a “Behind the Music” on either her or Bobby. I would also enjoy a fancy casserole or lasagna while watching an in depth Diane Sawyer or Oprah interview with cracked out Whitney. Or have no food, and make drinking games with some Southern distilled Jack Daniels, every time she says something inappropriate or has to go to the bathroom. You could even do margaritas. Whitney, we will always love you.
I decided to do a little research of my own when it came to Whitney Houston’s favorite things to eat, and guess what one of her favorite foods to eat were ? Pop Tarts. Whitney Houston had a taste for sushi and pop tarts as some of her favorite eats. I’ve never made homemade pop tarts before so I decided to give it a shot, but I had to give a Queen of the Night signature only a true Whitney fan would appreciate. When I think of Whitney, I don’t think of all the tabloids and drama she was going through…I actually just fondly remember her amazing and timeless love ballads and her beautiful voice. I decided to bedazzle the living day lights out of my pop tarts to truly reflect the Diva that Whitney Houston was…and just as a love touch..I made them in the shape of hearts…I felt these would be the style of Pop Tarts a true Whitney Houston fan would eat in her honor. Enjoy 🙂
– 1 package refrigerated pie crusts ( the kind you roll out not already in the pan)
– 1/4 cup Creamy Peanut Butter
– 1/4 Cup Strawberry Seedless Jam
– 1 egg well beaten
– 2 Cups Confectioner’s Sugar
– 2 Tablespoons Milk
– 1/4 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
– Your Favorite Sprinkles
1) Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
2) Unroll the pie crusts, place on a lightly floured work surface, and roll the crusts slightly with a rolling pin to square the edges. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out hearts on the dough.
3) Place one teaspoon of peanut butter in the center of each heart and spread it out making sure to stay about 1/2 inch from the edges. Top each peanut butter spread with strawberry jam spread evenly on top.
4) Top each with another pastry heart, and use a fork to crimp the hearts together, sealing in the filling. Brush the top of each heart with some egg wash.
5) Move the filled pastries to the prepared baking sheets. Bake in the preheated oven until the edges are lightly golden brown, about 5 minutes.
6) Allow to cool on the baking sheets. Meanwhile, stir together the confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl to make a frosting. Pipe the frosting in whatever pattern you would like on the hearts and sprinkle with sprinkles. Serve.
